While most microgreen seeds are on the easy end of the scale in terms of growing difficulty, there are a few that stand out as our and our customers firm favourites.
Broccoli
Broccoli microgreens are known to be among the healthiest and easiest microgreens you can grow. Ready in just 8 - 10 days, these tiny greens are a staple amongst many home growers. Broccoli microgreens are a rich source of a compound called sulforaphane, an incredibly powerful antioxidant. Several studies have shown that broccoli microgreens decreased oxidative stress and inflammation in kidneys and reduced blood pressure in the cardiovascular system.
Broccoli microgreens are a perfect entry level crop to grow with a mild flavour and short growing time. Definitely give these a shot!

Radish
Radish microgreens are probably the quickest crop you can grow.
Ready to harvest in as little as 7 days, they pack a flavour punch with some varieties being quite spicy. Radish microgreens come in all sorts of colours including deep purple leaves, bright pink stems or green leaves with stems as white as snow. While they are very easy to grow, they are not everyone's cup of tea flavour wise. We love them though!
Kale
If you are well versed in plant families you may be beginning to see a trend here as most of our top 5 microgreen varieties are from the Brassica, or cabbage/mustard family. Brassicas include everything from broccoli and kale to turnip, cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. The brassica family is known to be incredibly good for you, especially at the microgreen stage and just so happens to be really easy to grow. Some of our favourite kale varieties are Black Tuscan Kale, Pink Kale and Green Kale.
Mustard
Our list of brassicas continues with our personal favourite from the family…Mustard! Mustard is an incredibly user-friendly microgreen to grow that is quick and offers an incredibly delicious kick to your meals. While it may be a little hot for some, we have seen small kids gobble up mustard microgreens in delight! Black mustard is a particularly easy crop to grow that you just have to try!
Pea Shoots
If you haven’t grown pea shoot microgreens you are seriously missing out! They are the most versatile crop you can grow. They can be sauteed in a hot pan for 20 seconds for a delicious side dish similar to spinach. They can be blitzed into the most delicious microgreen pesto you will ever taste and are the quintessential garnish used by chefs across the world. Pea shoots are ready to harvest in about 12 days from soaking.
We hope this list has inspired you to experiment with some new varieties. With over 40 different varieties to choose from, there is a whole world of exciting flavours, colour and textures you can grow directly on your windowsill.
