Basil Genovese

Use micro basil in place of regular basil in any recipe for an extra intense basil flavor. Micro basil pesto is highly recommended. Keep moist until roots have established. 
Genovese basil is a variety of sweet basil. It has a mucilaginous seed, meaning that it develops a jelly-like coating when it gets wet. Take extra care when removing the paper towel. 


Do not soak Basil seeds

Sow the seeds on your prepared Nubox surface, mist and cover with a very moist paper towel.  Place a weight in the top tray, 2 tins of beans for example will suffice here. Leave for 5 to 7 days until the seedlings have built a good root system and push the top tray up about 1cm. Be careful when removing the paper towel as the seeds can stick. 

When seedlings are about 1cm tall, remove the weight and flip the top tray to create a blackout dome. Leave for one day to allow seedlings to straighten up and stretch. If you wish, basil can be left to stretch longer in blackout as they will not grow as tall as quickly once introduced to light. 

After 24 hours place your Nubox on a sunny windowsill or under another lightsource. 

Bottom water by lifting the green tray up and pouring approximately 100ml of water into the base tray. Wait 10 minutes for the water to absorb fully before deciding to add more. 

Be careful not to overwater as waterlogged roots will kill off your plants. 

Harvest from day 12 onwards or wait until the true leaves begin to show.
