Cress | Organic Microgreen Seed

Cress | Organic Microgreen Seed

- +

With it’s unique looking fine curled leaves and amazing strong flavour, cress can add taste and nutrition to any meal. It’s great in sandwiches, salads and especially with eggs.

Cress microgreens are fast and easy to grow in microgreen form making it a perfect starting seed to dip your toes in and get growing today.

Cress, similar to basil and mustard, is a mucilaginous seed making it less suited to sprouting in a jar.

Latin name: Lepidium sativum
Health Benefits:  High in vitamins K, C and E. Good for heart health, maintaining healthy bones, aiding weight loss.

Microgreen Instructions:
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Soak: Do not soak
  • Germination time: 3 - 4 days
  • Harvest from: 8 - 12 days
  • Flavour/texture: Peppery but sweet taste. Almost spicy. Delicious with eggs.

1. Sow your seeds directly on your prepared growing surface - no need to cover with soil if using.
2. Place a tray directly on the seeds and weigh down to ensure good contact with the growing medium and to help the roots dig deep.
Please note: Cress is a mucilaginous seed meaning it develops a sticky, jelly-like coating that can cause the seeds to stick to the top tray during germination. Take care when inspecting.
3. Keep weighed until the seedlings have germinated and are beginning to push against the weight.
4. Place in blackout when the seedlings are about 2cm tall - use blackout to stretch your seedlings to your desired length.
5. Place in a sunny location or under grow lights to green up your microgreens.
6. Harvest as soon as the seed leaves (cotelydons) have developed fully.

Sprouting Instructions:

Due to cress being a mucilaginous seed, we do not recommend it for jar sprouting.
